Food Service

Dear Parent/Guardian

The USDA has approved FREE Breakfast and Lunch for all students through 12/31/2020 or until funding is depleted. Your students enrolled in the Glenwood Community School District will not be charged for any regular school meals starting September 14th 2020.

How does this affect your student’s school lunch status?

If your student is in full pay or reduced lunch status, they will be Temporarily moved to FREE status. No meal charges will be made to the students account through 12/31/2020 or until the district is notified by the USDA and State Authorities that the funding is depleted. No one really knows when this funding may run out, so like everything related to COVID, it will be a fluid process and we will notify families as soon as possible of any changes. At that point the student’s account will return to their original lunch status and charged accordingly. All money placed in the meal account will carry over until regular meal prices resume.  Ala carte options will be available and charged to their meal account (extra milk & sack lunch milk is $.40) Please add funds into the account to cover sack lunch milk and ala carte charges. You can add funds to your student account using or send to school to be deposited.

How does this effect applying for free and reduced lunches?

We highly encourage Parent/Guardians to please fill out the Iowa Eligibility Meal Application to apply for free and reduced status at so when we return to charging you will still receive the appropriate meal benefits. You may also pick up an application at any school office.

This Institution is an Equal Opportunity Provider.

If you have any questions, please contact Food service Office at 712-527-5029

Thank You

Terry Marlow, Director of Food-services

Welcome to Glenwood Community Schools

2020-2021 Food Services Program

Glenwood Community School District provides a computerized system that allows participants to deposit money into a Food Service account from which they may draw to purchase lunch, breakfast, and ala carte items using a Personal Identification Number (PIN).  The Food Service Program will issue each student and school staff a PIN number to use when purchasing meals or other food items. DURING THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR WE WILL ISSUE ALL STUDENTS A MEAL ACCOUNT ID CARD WITH A BAR CODE PRINTED ON IT. THE STUDENTS WILL PRESENT THE CARD IN LINE SO THE CLERK CAN SCAN THE CARD MAKING THE CHARGING OF MEALS TOUCH FREE. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT THE TRANSMISSION OF GERMS IN THE LINE.
Please deposit money into your student’s account at registration, the first day of school and when the account is low. You may also deposit money on the website. Money left in accounts at the end of the year will stay in your student’s account unless we receive a written request for a refund from the parent or guardian.

Food Service must collect money for accounts in the early part of the school day. Due to time constraints during the lunch service time, we cannot accept money for deposit in the lunch line.  Meals must be paid for in advance; therefore, money needs to be put into the account before purchasing can begin.

Reminder notes will be printed at Northeast Elementary and West Elementary schools.  Please contact your student’s teacher if you do not receive the reminder notes.  Reminders start when an account reaches $10.00 or less. Middle School and High School students are told in the line when the balance gets low. We do not send reminders home at this age level.

PLEASE READ THE 701.3 MEAL CHARGES POLICY INCLUDED IN THIS PACKET! This includes information on the State and Federal law, Payment of meals, Payment methods and Negative account balance procedures.

We now offer so parents can monitor their child’s meal account balance and transactions online and set up a payment reminder email for FREE.  Also, parents may make pre-payments into their child’s account anytime using Visa or MasterCard (credit or debit). The convenience fee of $3.00 is charged by the school district. The fee is designed to cover or offset the normal costs of processing credit card transactions and other costs associated with maintaining a credit card merchant account. If you wish to use this service, you may sign up at

The Food Service Clerk at your child’s school or can provide you with a printout of your student’s account.  It will show when money was deposited, when money was deducted, and what was purchased from the account.  Parents need to notify the clerk if they would like to “block” a student from receiving breakfast or ala carte items, or put spending limits on their account.  If you have additional questions about your food service account, contact the clerk between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or call the food service office at 712-527-5029.

An Iowa Eligibility Application (Free and Reduced) form must be filled out (renewed) each school year.  You can fill out an application online at or pick one up a printed copy at any building office. There is also one in this meal packet. Students approved for FREE meals may eat both breakfast and lunch at no cost.  Students approved for REDUCED priced meals may purchase breakfast at a cost of $.30 and lunch at a cost of $.40 daily. Free, reduced, and full paying students may purchase milk for $.40 to go with a sack lunch, but this is not part of the Free and Reduced meals program.  There must be money in the account to purchase milk for a sack lunch.  We ask that parents not send bottled/canned soda with sack lunches.

All Food Service forms are located on the Glenwood Schools Website under the Support Services tab and then Food Service section.
