Dear Parent, Student, and Educator,

We have school Monday –Thursday this week. Friday is a professional development day for teachers and a non school day for students. Wednesday is a regular day/not an early out.

Building Projects:

We are working on repairing the nosing (front edging strips) on the front stairs to the second floor. This should be a fairly quick project not affecting student/activities traffic.  The cafeteria will be getting some new signage, courtesy of an advertising sponsorship agreement with FastSigns, the Army, and Glenwood HS. We plan to finish the cafeteria ribbon in the future. Future completion may be possible through student project / fundraising collaboration, etc… similar to the MS tournament of students vs. teachers for new signage. We are working around non-student days for the current installation.  We hope you enjoy the addition.

Current plan: (First picture) / Potential Addition (Second picture)

Building Projects

ESports Lab: As part of a Therapeutic Classroom Grant with the State of Iowa, we will be starting an ESports Club! Equipment and materials are starting to be set up Nov. 1st, with the club scheduled to begin before Thanksgiving break. This will be located across from the guidance office and a shared space with Mr. Rasmussen, HS Instructional Coach. For questions about ESports, contact Mr. Charles Heilman at heilmancha@glenwoodschools.org

During America’s recognized Safe Schools Week, we held two safety events:

We practiced our lockdown procedures from our Standards Response Protocols.

https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html.

We also had the opportunity to host a “Think Fast” Teen Driver Safety Assembly. All costs were covered by an existing Federal Grant, so it was free to the school. The assembly was both informative and fun for students, as it took on a game show like delivery! As part of the Teen Driver Safety program, we will continue to provide students with bite size monthly safety information in partnership with FCCLA and senior Abygale Luddington, who is an FCCLA officer and on the Governor’s Safety Bureau.

Celebration from Respect Retreat & “Think Fast” Assembly:
