9/11/2023 Principal Newsletter
Dear Parent and Student,
This week, we recognize 9/11 and Glenwood homecoming. These seem unlikely events to coincide with one another; yet, what is common about the two are “acts of service.” Thanks to those servicemen and women, firefighters, nurses/doctors, the police, and all who supported our country after the fateful 9/11 attacks. I also want to take a moment to pause and reflect on those who lost loved ones because of that moment in history. In both times of challenges and times of celebration, we unite together.
This year, we have had numerous individuals and organizations step forward to help with our homecoming celebrations, volunteering their time and money and efforts to make our homecoming memorable for our students and community. From firework donations, to assistance with the parade, homecoming floats, coronation, the dance, street painting, and much more… It is because of their service that these rich traditions continue. Thank you for your kindness and support! We have so many wonderful events to look forward to this week. Homecoming in Glenwood, Iowa is incredibly special, built on years of traditions, and there is so much to be grateful for. As a relative newcomer to Glenwood, I am filled with pride this week seeing the whole town come out to celebrate.
Quote to think about this week:
“Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public service improves the lives and the world around you, its greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring to your own life.” –Arnold Schwarzeneggar

RAMS Time:
Students receive academic support during RAMS Time, our intervention period. During this time, when not called for support by a teacher, we ask that students work on practice work for their classes. If they are finished with their work, we ask them to read an independent reading book. Please assist and ensure your student has a book to read. We are beginning to add enrichment opportunities to this time. For example, in honor of 9/11, Staff Sgt. Alex Whitening will be speaking to interested students in our high school library about the history of the event. Every day, students check their “FlexiSched” app for “Flexes” to enhance their academic experience.
Congratulations to our “Students of the Week”!
Have a great week RAM Nation! Reach out if you have questions. We are here to help and welcome your feedback. Every day is a great day to be a RAM!
