8th Grade Football Summary:

9/12/24 – Glenwood 39, Clarinda 0
A Game:

The 8th-grade football team kicked off their season in dominant fashion, securing a 39-0 victory over the visiting Clarinda Cardinals. With a potent offense, stellar defense, and dynamic special teams, the Rams were in full control from start to finish.

On offense, Glenwood relied on a strong ground game powered by the offensive line, paving the way for J. Leick, H. Cook, and N. Cook. Leick found the end zone twice, while the Cook duo delivered several long runs to keep the chains moving. Through the air, B. Grile and T. Buthe hauled in multiple passes from N. Cook and M. Yeager. Both quarterbacks threw for a touchdown, with Grile catching two touchdown passes.

Special teams also contributed big plays, adding two touchdowns. The first came in the opening quarter when the Rams blocked a Clarinda punt, and N. Jensen recovered it in the end zone. The second special teams score occurred on the first play of the second half, with J. Leick returning the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

Defensively, the Rams pitched a shutout, holding the Cardinals scoreless. M. Yeager added to the defensive effort with an interception, while the defense controlled the line of scrimmage and disrupted the Clarinda offense throughout the game.

B Game: Glenwood 8, Clarinda 8

In a tightly contested B game, Glenwood and Clarinda battled to an 8-8 draw. After the Rams gave up a touchdown and extra point midway through the 15-minute running-clock game, Glenwood's offense responded with a sustained drive, featuring a steady ground attack led by A. Cochran, Q. Layne, and D. Stewart. The passing game also made key contributions, with passing to a core of receivers: R. Gonzales, R. Williams, B. Tanner, and M. Kendrick.

With less than five seconds remaining, M. Yeager connected with M. Kendrick on a 20-yard touchdown pass. On the ensuing PAT, Yeager found R. Gonzales in the end zone to tie the game as time expired.

The Rams will travel to Atlantic next Thursday to face the 1-0 Trojans. Kickoff is set for 4:15 PM at the Atlantic Trojan Bowl.

7th Football Game Summary:

The Glenwood 7th grade football had their opening game of the 2024 season.  The young Rams hosted the Cardinals of Clarinda with a solid 54-12 win.

The Rams won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.  Defense opened up the game with an outstanding performance holding the Cardinals to negative yards and forced them to punt the ball away.  On his first carry of the game Easton Fornoff (32) scored on a 7 yard run to put the Rams on the board.  Treg Arnold scored on the PAT attempt from 3 yards out, making the early score 8-0 with 5:16 on the clock.  Shortly thereafter the opportunistic defense came up with a pass interception by Tate King (26).  Arnold made his way to the endzone a few plays later with a ten yard run.  Nate Schulte (36) scored the PAT, making the score 16-0 with 3:26 on the clock.  Just over a minute later the Rams defense forced another turnover when Fornoff picked up a Cardinal fumble.   Arnold found the endzone again when he ran for a16 yard touchdown, with 1:47 on the clock.  With Fornoff adding the 2 point conversion the score was 24-0.  The Ram defense forced another Clarinda punt and the speedy Arnold ran 46 yards to end the first quarter.  Schulte added another 2 point conversion, making the score 32-0.

The second quarter was much of the same as the defense landed on another Cardinal fumble by Colton Cook (54), that led to a 43 yard pass from Gannon Cook (1) to Kane Donscheski (81).  Schulte added another 2 point conversion making the early 2nd quarter score 40-0 with 7:01 on the now running clock.  The defense again held Clarinda to a punt attempt, and on the first offensive play Gannon Cook (1) scored his first running touchdown on a 57 yard run down the sideline to end the Ram scoring in the first half of play.  Making the halftime score 46-0.

The second half started as hot as the first, with Paxton Manley (20) scored his first touchdown on a 55 yard run, after Schulte ran in another 2 point conversion the early 2nd half score was 54-0 with 6:55 left on the running clock.

Clarinda was able to score twice, in the 4th quarter making the final 54-12.

The B game was much of the same, with Gavin Anderson (5) scoring first on a 25 yard run, and Bennett Kenkel (2) scoring on a 40 yard run.  Both 2 point conversions were not successful, making the score 12-0, before the Cardinal made the game score 12-8 with 8:24 left in the 5th quarter.

Tate King (26) scored on a 26 yard run from 19 yards out making the final score 18-6.

The Rams will host the Atlantic Trogen next Thursday at 4:15
