Rams Close Season with Dominant 21-6 Win Over Creston Panthers

On a perfect evening for football, the 8th-grade Rams capped off their season with a convincing 21-6 victory over the visiting Creston Panthers. Both teams battled tough southern winds in a scoreless first quarter, with the Rams' defense standing tall to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.

Early in the second quarter, a special teams miscue by the Rams set up a short field for the Panthers, who quickly found the end zone in just three plays. However, the Rams’ defense held firm and denied the extra point, keeping the score at 6-0 in favor of Creston.

That seemed to ignite the Rams’ offense. Led by powerful runs from Joe L. and Hudson C., the Rams steadily marched down the field. Joe L. capped off the drive with a thrilling 24-yard run along the home sideline for Glenwood’s first touchdown of the night. Ryan G.'s successful PAT gave the Rams a 7-6 lead with just two minutes remaining in the half.

Coming out of halftime, the Rams’ defense cranked up the intensity, shutting out the Panthers for the entire second half. Meanwhile, the offense started to click, moving the ball deep into Creston territory by the end of the third quarter, though the score remained 7-6 heading into the fourth.

Early in the final quarter, Nolan C. connected with Ace C. in the back of the end zone on a beautiful 17-yard touchdown pass. A strong push from the offensive line helped Tate B. punch in the two-point conversion, extending the Rams' lead to 15-6 with 6:30 left on the clock.

Creston’s offense struggled to gain any momentum, as the Rams’ relentless pass rush forced their quarterback into scrambles and disrupted the passing game. After a turnover on downs, the Rams took over possession and worked the clock with key runs by Nolan C. and Joe L., supported by critical downfield blocking from the offensive line. The drive was capped by a 6-yard touchdown run from Nolan C., though the PAT attempt fell short, leaving the score at 21-6 with just over two minutes to play.

The Panthers had one final chance to put together a drive, but the Rams’ defense held firm, sealing the victory and bringing the final score to 21-6.

In the B Team game, played with a 15-minute running clock, the Rams had only one offensive possession. Despite some strong defensive efforts, the B team conceded a short touchdown pass to Creston’s tight end, falling behind 0-6. On their offensive series, Max Y. connected with Ryan G. on a 28-yard corner route, bringing the Rams inside the 15-yard line. Unfortunately, the team was unable to capitalize, dropping two passes in the end zone and ultimately coming up short. Creston added another late touchdown as time expired, ending the B team’s game at 0-12.

The Rams' A Team finished their season with an impressive 5-1 record, winning their last four games. The B Team wrapped up a strong season as well, finishing 4-2. The 8th-grade coaching staff would like to congratulate the entire team on a fantastic season and wish them the best of luck in their future football careers. This was truly a great group to coach!

This afternoon, we’ll be holding the drawing for the three football helmets. Remember, all equipment must be turned in to Coach Starner or Coach Weber to be included in the drawing.

7th Football Recap

Last night the Glenwood 7th football team ended the 2024 campaign with an A team dominant win and a B team tie.  They also completed the season with an impressive 9-2-2 record (B team had 2 ties).

The game started with the Panthers on offense, it took a little time, but the defense held them to a punt.  The first offensive play Treg Arnold (3) took the ball through the right side of the defense 71  yards for the touchdown, the 2 point conversion failed.  Making the score 6-0 with 4:21 in the 1st quarter.  After another forced punt Nate Schulte (36) scored on a 1 yard run, and with a Cole Herrington (12) PAT kick the score was 13-0 with 1:01 left in the 1st quarter.

The second quarter found the Panthers driving into Ram territory only to be stopped by a timely interception by Arnold.  The offense turned the PI into points with a 41 yard pass from Gannon Cook (1) to Kain Donscheski (81), the 2 point conversion by Arnold was good, making the first half score 21-0

The Rams received the kickoff in the second half and put together a 2 minute drive ending with another pitch and catch from Cook to Donscheski this time for 18 yards, the 2 point run by Schulte made the score 29-0.  After forcing another Creston punt, Cook and Donscheski struck for their 3rd passing touchdown, this time for 80 yards, and with a 2 point conversion run by Jagger Lundvall made the 3rd quarter score 37-0.

With a running clock the Rams still managed to add to the score, quick into the 4th quarter Jacob Croatt (38) scored on a 27 yard run, and with the PAT kick by Herrington the score was 44-0.  The final score of the game was set up by an Arnold fumble recovery that Bennett Kenkel (2) turned into 6 points on a 5 yard run.  After the PAT kick failed the final score was 50-0.

The B game was an offensive battle where Kenkel scored on runs of 40 and 2 yards as well as putting in both 2 point conversions.  The final play of the game found the Panthers on the Ram goal line and the young Rams defense answered the challenge and held the Panther out of the endzone to keep the final score 16-16.
