7th Grade Football

Last night the Glenwood 7th grade football hosted the third game of the 2024 season.  The young Rams took on the Monarch of Denison Schleswig with a solid 45-6 win.  The Ram B team posted a 30-0 win as well.

Denison won the coin flip and chose to kick the ball off, and Kane Donscheski (81) returned 75 yards for a touchdown.  The 2 point conversion was run in by Nathan Schulte (36), making the score 8-0 with 7:37 on the clock.  The Rams scored their second touchdown when Gannon Cook tossed an 11 yard strike to Donscheski for his 2nd score.  The 2 point conversion run by Colton Uphoff (22) made the score 16-0 with no time left on the 1st quarter clock.

After forcing another punt by Denison, the Ram offense got on the field and put together a nice little drive that ended with another passing touchdown by Treg Arnold (3) to Schulte for 30 yards making the score 22-0, the PAT failed.

The Ram defense forced the Monarchs to punt, giving the offense the ball back which they turned into points shortly thereafter, when Cook hooked up with Schulte for a 9 yard touchdown, with 4:35 left in the 1st half.  The PAT kick by Cole Herrington was put through the uprights making the score 29-0.  Donscheski was not only having a great game on offense and special teams, jumped on a Denison fumble on defense.  This  set up the offense for another touchdown, when he and Cook connected again, for a 15 yard touchdown with 9 seconds left.  Making the half time score 36-0 after another Herrington PAT kick.

The second half was much of the same as the tuff Ram defense scored their 2nd safety of the season with 6:45 left on the clock.  Donscheski scored his 4th touchdown of the game on the ensuing kickoff, scampering 50 yards, making the score 45-0 with another Herrington PAT kick as well.  The starting defense finished off the 3rd quarter when Tristan Boldra landed on another Monarch fumble.

The 4th quarter found the backup in the game and Denison was able to find the endzone, making the final score 45-6.

The B game was  a 2 period of 15 minute running clock that started with the Rams on defense.  After a long drive the Rams would bend but not break, holding the Denison offense out of the endzone.  Bennett Kenkel (2) would score his first points of the B game on a 12 yard run, with Tate King (26) scoring the 2 point conversion the score was 8-0 with 8:23 on the clock.  Corbin Freeman (10) scored his first touchdown, on a 21 yard run, and Kenkel added 2 points, making the score 16-0 with 4:05 left in the first half.

The second half was pretty much the same for Kenkel scored on a great 41 yard touchdown, 2 point conversion failed making the score 22-0 with 10:12 left in the game.  Brayden Houser (28) found his way to another Denison fumble giving the ball back the offense.  Tate King scored his first touchdown on a 15 yard run, and Kenkel scored the 2 point conversion, making the final score 30-0

Your Glenwood Rams 7th grade football team will hit the road next week to take on the Harlan Cyclone, at 4:15 in Harlan.

8th Grade Football

The 8th grade football team made the lengthy drive to Denison on Thursday to take on the Monarchs.  The Rams were able to come home with two victories.  A 53-6 A team win and a 6-0 B team win.

The A game featured touchdowns from seven different players in an offensive explosion against the Monarch defense.

Leick led off the scoring early in the first quarter with a 30 yard touchdown run on the first  play from scrimmage.    After a Monarch fumble that was recovered by N. Jensen, N. Cook was able to find wide receiver A. Cochrane in the endzone for a 15 yard touchdown pass.  The Monarchs would then go on the offensive and sustain a drive to score in the closing seconds of the 1st quarter to make it 12-6 in favor of the Rams.

Leick would find pay dirt for the second time in the game to put the Rams up 18-6 early in the second quarter.   The Rams defense would hold the Monarchs offense at bay and then mounted another offensive drive of their own.   N. Cook took a quarterback keep over the right side 48 yards for the score.   The Rams would convert their first PAT of the game when N. Cook tossed a corner route to M. Kendrick in the back of the endzone to put the score at 26-6 with seven seconds left in the first half.

The second half started much like the first with Rams holding the Monarch offense to minimal yardage and moving the ball offensively at will.   The Rams would score another passing touchdown to T. Buthe on a 15 yard flat pass that he would take up the opponents sideline.   R. Gonzales would add the PAT kick to make the score 33-6 early in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Rams would score on three more occasions.   Early in the fourth quarter H. Cook took a toss 35 yards for a touchdown.  The PAT kick would hit off the crossbar to make the score 39-6.

Midway through the fourth quarter, R. Williams would score his first ever touchdown on a 15 yard touchdown pass from M. Yeager.  The PAT kick was good, taking the score to 46-6.   The Rams final score came with 2:00 left in the game.   Running Back, Q. Lane took the ball over the left side for a 42 yard touchdown.   The PAT kick by R. Gonzales was good, making the final 53-6.

The B game saw all the scoring on the first play of the game, when D. Stewart scrambled 40 yards for a rushing touchdown.   The Rams B team defense was strong and was able to pitch a shutout and win the contest, 6-0.

The Rams move to 2-1 on the season and will host Harlan next Thursday and the Athletic Complex.
