Bus Driver Shortage
Glenwood Community, Parents & Staff,
As we begin the first week of official practice for all high school fall activities, we wanted to provide an update as to where we currently are with transportation and the shortage of bus drivers we are experiencing. As of August 8th, we are short two full time bus drivers to get kids to school and we currently have no bus drivers available for activities. In the meantime we will utilize our sub drivers to get kids to school. We are fortunate to have Mr. Alex Williams who is a high school teacher and 3 sport coach be able to drive a bus- so for the sports he coaches, we will have one bus available. In the meantime the activities office has been working with the transportation office to do what we can to still get our kids to every event in which we have scheduled. However, there may be events that we can’t provide transportation due to the amount of vehicles we have available or the lack of available staff (coaches/sponsors) to drive.
For example on October 12th, we have H-10 MS/HS B/G XC at Carroll, we have 7th football scheduled to go to Creston, and 7th & 8th volleyball scheduled to go to Harlan.
Both the activities department and transportation department will continue to do all we can to modify schedules and work together to try not to interrupt scheduled events but there are going to be days where we can’t get everyone to the events that we need to get them to. We may have to develop travel rosters for each sport, we may not be able to play every level on every given night and worst case we may have to cancel an event. Canceling or not attending events is our last resort and we are hopeful we don’t get to that point. If you are willing to help out, here is how you can help:
If you as a parent would be available to drive a school vehicle we need the following information before you can do that.
- Background Check Filled out and turned back into the high school office
- Copy of your drivers license (front and back)
- Copy of your auto insurance card (front and back)
If you are a parent who is interested in helping us out and would like to drive your own vehicle to transport your child or other kids. We would need the following information:
- Transportation Waiver Filled out by you the driver as well as any parents of the kids who you would be driving.
We appreciate your help with this national bus driver shortage and we will continue to work together to ensure our kids do not miss out on opportunities to compete and perform. If you know of anyone willing to drive a bus please have them call Frank Bachman at the Bus Barn at 712-527-4116.
Thank You,
Jeff Bissen
