Business & Finance Overview

The Glenwood Community School District’s Business and Finance Department ensures the overall financial integrity and stability through development of comprehensive multiyear budgets, completion of annual audits and regular reporting of the district’s financial position.

We take our stewardship of taxpayer resources very seriously. The department oversees an annual budget of more than $35 million, the 49 th largest in the State
of Iowa.

Additionally, the department is responsible for all accounting matters, resource allocation, financial projections, compliance, payroll, benefits, accounts receivable and accounts payable.

Understanding the complexities of school finance can be complicated. Glenwood Community School District works hard to provide the community with an overview of the districts funding sources and how they are allocated. Certified Enrollment

The funding Iowa school districts receive to educate our students is based on enrollment.  Specifically certified enrollment.  Certified enrollment is based on the number of students living in a school district.  This number is determined by districts on the first day of October each school year.

Under state law, certified enrollment is used in the formula that determines state funding for our schools.  It also includes "weighting” or additional funding for students in certain programs such as students who receive assistance in learning the English language.
