Inspections
Iowa State Code 321.374 reads: No vehicle shall be put into service as a school bus until it is given an original inspection to determine if it meets all legal and established uniform standards of construction for the protection of health and safety of children to be transported.
All school buses and multipurpose vehicles are inspected twice during each school year by the Department of Education School Bus Inspectors and the Iowa State Patrol. The cost for a bus inspection is currently $40.00 per year per vehicle (including suburbans).
